The Light Within is a resin sculpture of my own face. I have never done any kind of molding with rubber or plaster, and completing a mold of my own face proved to be more than challenging! I am so thankful to have had some outstanding help along the way. Resin pours are also a new process for me, and I really wasn't sure exactly how the end result would turn out as I worked in layers swirling different colors into the resin cast of my face. However, that said, the piece is intensely personal for me and is meant to showcase, in a literal way, the light within us all. In fact, i found the process of making the piece to be strangely true to life: as i waited anxiously for the resin to set and reveal the finished product, the sculpture remained dark, completely encased by the rubber & plaster mold. But, when the time finally came, and i could at last take the sculpture out, light illuminated it immediately. Once the sculpture could be placed in its intended spot (a window), Light could at last illuminate all the beautiful layers, colors, and details that i had waited so long to see. Strikingly similar to my own journey: that it's only when I can find where I'm meant to be, does all the waiting make sense, all the details come into focus, the beauty & purpose of it all are at last revealed.
